What is Easy-Wash?

Easy-Wash is a clever treatment that makes natural animal fibres easier to care for while preserving all the qualities we love about them – softness, breathability and comfort. Using a gentle enzyme-based process, the fibre surface is modified to help reduce felting and shrinkage, making the yarn suitable for machine washing on a wool or delicate cycle.

Unlike many traditional washable yarns, Easy-Wash doesn’t rely on chlorine bleach or other harsh treatments. Instead, naturally derived enzymes gently smooth the tiny scales on the fibre surface that can cause fibres to lock together and felt during washing.

The result is a yarn that keeps its natural softness, warmth and comfort while being much easier to care for.

No Synthetic Coating

Many superwash yarns achieve their machine-washable properties by adding a synthetic polymer coating to the fibre. Easy-Wash works differently. Because no coating is added, the fibre retains more of its natural handle, breathability and character.

Better for the Environment

Easy-Wash was developed with sustainability in mind. By avoiding chlorine-based processing and associated by-products, it offers a more environmentally conscious alternative to many conventional washable yarn treatments. The treatment uses carefully selected oxidising agents that comply with internationally recognised standards for chemical safety and responsible production. This helps minimise the release of hazardous substances into the environment while still delivering reliable anti-shrink performance.

Natural Fibres Made for Everyday Life

Easy-Wash brings together the best of both worlds: the beauty and performance of natural fibres with the practicality needed for everyday wear. You still get the softness, warmth and comfort you’d expect, but with the added reassurance that caring for your finished projects is simple and straightforward.

It’s an easy-care solution that works with the fibre, not against it – helping you enjoy natural yarns with a little less worry and a little more wear.

Dye uptake

Undyed, easy-wash treated yarn typically takes dye more vividly than a
non-superwash yarn
, as the treatment slightly smooths the fibre surface and improves dye uptake.
However, it does not absorb colour quite as intensely as a superwash-treated yarn. The end result is somewhere between the two – making easy-wash yarn a strong, more environmentally friendly option for dyers who still want bright, saturated results.
