Description:
One of our best sellers…. This yarn is a standard 4 ply weight with a 4/16 construction giving 400m (437 yds) per 100g. Superwash Merino 4 ply is made with 100% superwashed merino wool. This means the fibres have been specially treated before being spun to enable it to be machine washable, therefore it will not ‘felt’ when dyed or washed. It is a great easy-care yarn. We deliberately use a fine 21 micron merino fibre in the yarn so it has a soft handle and is not itchy or scratchy next to the skin.
The wool has a natural elasticity which helps a merino garment to stretch yet return back to its original shape and the natural properties of wool provide great insulation which helps regulate the body temperature in hot or cold climates.
A temporary replacement for our regular and highly popular Peruvian Superwash Merino 4 Ply (for which production has been delayed due to C-19) our Italian Superwash Merino 4 Ply yarn comes with all the same, beautiful qualities. This base will only be available while supplies last, until we receive our regular sock yarn from the mill in Peru.
The wool is mulesing free and comes from South Africa. The yarn is 100% animal fibre and perfect for dyeing. The yarn is naturally a bright white colour and would dye up well in subtle light shades or bright and vibrant colours. For bright vibrant colours we recommend using acid or natural dyes.

The superwash merino 4 ply is one of my most popular bases. It takes color quickly and is very durable in dye pots and pans. It’s extremely soft and is very popular for shawls and sweaters. Perfect for against the skin garment knitting.
